How It Works
Solar Thermal Water Heating uses a thermal collector concealed in a box. Copper coils inside the collector heat up when exposed to sunlight and then transfer warm liquid through a series of tubes and pipes into a heat exchanger or heat wand inside your water tank. This heated fluid is then cycled back up to the thermal collector on your roof where the process continues.
Framed Panel Systems
A small two panel hot water system provides enough hot water for up to 4-6 people. Sunlight is absorbed by the panel in thermal energy form, warming up the series of tubes inside. These tubes cycle warm fluid into your water tank and provide you with instant, constantly hot water. Systems are freeze tolerant because they use a non-toxic substance called propylene glycol.
Evacuated Tube Systems
Our evacuated tube solar thermal collector is comprised of 30 evacuated tubes within a closed loop system. As sunlight travels through the evacuated tubes, the copper inside the tubes heats up. The heat is transferred from the tubes to a copper manifold, which contains a non-toxic biodegradable antifreeze solution called glycol. This fluid is pumped through to a solar wand heat exchanger and the heat is transferred to your hot water tank.
Our systems contain a non-toxic, biodegradable propylene glycol solution. This food-grade antifreeze heat transfer fluid is 100% safe and will not harm you or your family. Further, our propylene glycol solution is economical and prevents your Solar Energy USA solar hot water system from freezing, even in the coldest of climates.
Energy Savings With A Solar Thermal System
According to Energy Star it takes 356 kWh per month to heat the average homeowner’s hot water tank. At a rate of 12.5 cents per kWh that is a cost of $44 dollars per month and over $500 dollars a year. By switching to one of our hot water systems that use the sun to warm your water we can reduce your bills 60-90%. Additionally, most utilities offer a one-time rebate for installing a new solar thermal system, up to $500 dollars.
